Nutrition Degrees & Nutritionist Certification Programs

A nutritionist and dietitian degree prepares you for jobs helping people make the right food choices for a healthy lifestyle or achieve health-related goals such as weight loss or better cholesterol numbers. Nutritionists and dietitians can work in clinics, hospitals, nursing homes and schools, among many other locations. The number of jobs in this field is expected to grow faster than the average occupation this decade, according to federal government statistics.

Working as a nutritionist or dietitian can lead you to a wide variety of jobs, from clinical dietitians who provide medical nutrition therapy to community dietitians who educate people about the rewards of living healthy lives and eating nutritious food. Entry into this field typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics. Most states also require a license for nutritionists and dietitians, and some also require professional certification. Many employers prefer to hire candidates who have earned the Registered Dietitian designation, awarded by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
